People won’t be able to live in the Chernobyl exclusion zone for next 24,000 years due to high level of plutonium contamination.
  1. Currently, the Ukrainian government is looking for the best option for development of this territory, Chairman of the State Agency of Ukraine for Exclusion Zone Management Vitaly Petruk said, Hromadske.tv reports.
  2. According to him, after the new Chornobyl confinement is commissioned, Ukraine will move to a new stage, namely the development of the most contaminated area.
  3. "We want to make the area near the Chornobyl NPP a zone of special industrial use. Now it is contaminated with transuranic elements, plutonium elements. Their half-life period is 24,000 years, so people will not be able to live a normal life there for next 24,000 years," he said.
  4. As Petruk noted, the solar power park is most likely to be built on this territory, and more than 40 world companies have already shown interest in such a project.
