Another group of volunteers of the Ukrainian Legion, made up of Ukrainian citizens living abroad, will sign contracts with the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on June 26 in Lublin.

This was reported to Ukrinform by Petro Horkusha, a representative of the recruitment center at the Consulate General of Ukraine in Lublin.

"This group of volunteers will sign contracts on June 26," Horkusha said.

He added that the group includes several dozen Ukrainian citizens currently living in Poland, the Netherlands, Germany, and Italy.

According to him, the volunteers are aged between 20 and 44, and there are no women in this group so far.

Horkusha noted that some participants aim to connect their future with military service and also pursue higher education.

He also said that many volunteers were born in eastern Ukraine, including territories currently occupied by the aggressor, which gives them strong motivation to take part in liberating these areas.

The recruitment center representative reminded that after passing a military medical commission, the volunteers will undergo basic combined-arms training at a training ground in Poland.

As reported by Ukrinform, the Ukrainian Legion initiative was announced in July 2024, when President Volodymyr Zelensky and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk signed a security agreement in Warsaw. One of its provisions includes training Ukrainian military units on Polish territory.

The recruitment center for Ukrainian citizens at the Consulate General in Lublin opened in October 2024.

At present, Ukrainian Legion volunteers can sign contracts for one year (for those under 25), three years, or for the duration of martial law. After signing, recruits are sent to training grounds near Lublin for military preparation conducted by NATO instructors.

Under the agreement, Ukraine provides uniforms and medical supplies, while Poland provides infrastructure, equipment, and weapons for the training period.

The first group of Ukrainian Legion volunteers signed contracts in November last year, followed by subsequent groups in January and February 2025, and more recently in June, August, and October, as well as January and March of this year.
