Ukrinform officially launches Arabic-language version of its website
The announcement was made by Vitalii Fedianin, Editor-in-Chief of Ukrinform’s Foreign News and International Broadcasting Department, during a roundtable discussion “Ukraine–Middle East: A New Architecture of Partnership.”
The Arabic-language platform becomes Ukrinform’s eighth language edition, joining its existing Ukrainian, English, German, Spanish, French, Japanese, and Polish services.
Ukrinform Director General Serhii Cherevatyi expressed hope that the new Arabic edition would serve as another bridge to a large and important audience of approximately 420 million Arabic speakers worldwide.
“Following the President’s visit to Arab countries, we see both challenges and opportunities in this complex environment. We have identified common ground based on our long history of cooperation. Our enemy seeks to spread disinformation and fake narratives. We will make every effort to dismantle these myths, including in the Arab world. We must counter these narratives and continue seeking areas of mutual interest,” Cherevatyi said.
For his part, Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Oleksandr Mishchenko noted that Ukrinform’s Arabic-language edition would showcase Ukraine’s experience and serve as a counterweight to Russia’s investments in propaganda.
Fedianin added that testing of the Arabic-language platform began on April 14. During the trial period, the agency already faced attacks from Russian bots following Russia’s massive strike on Kyiv on May 24 and after a Ukrainian attack on Tu-142 aircraft at the Taganrog airfield.
As previously reported, Volodymyr Zelensky conducted a Middle East tour in March, visiting Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Jordan. Following the tour, Ukraine signed ten-year defense cooperation agreements with Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Earlier, the EDAM Center for Economics and Foreign Policy concluded that Russia’s war against Ukraine has significantly altered the balance of power in the Middle East and limited Moscow’s ability to influence regional developments.
