UK spends over £16.5M on Starlink, including for Ukraine
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by The Telegraph, citing recently published government data.
Over the past four years, the UK Ministry of Defence has spent £16.6 million on Starlink.
Part of these funds was used to purchase Starlink terminals for Ukraine, which are being used to provide uninterrupted high-speed internet access on the frontline.
Another portion of the spending on Starlink is related to providing communications for British soldiers and sailors when they are deployed in remote areas away from home.
Last year, it was reported that sailors aboard the HMS Prince of Wales were testing Starlink internet connectivity to watch television and stay in touch with their loved ones.
It is noted that since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, Ukraine has received more than 50,000 Starlink terminals.
Some of them were supplied as direct donations from SpaceX, as part of U.S. military aid, or from other allies, primarily Poland.
These terminals are used to control drones and maintain communications on the frontline.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, the Russian government introduced a ban on importing equipment capable of receiving and transmitting signals from foreign satellite communication systems, including Starlink terminals.
