Ukrainian demining units clear nearly 900 hectares of liberated territories in March – Defense Ministry
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Defense Ministry, citing the Main Directorate of Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety.
“In March, units of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine cleared 876 hectares of territories liberated from Russian invaders; since the beginning of the year, a total of 2,831 hectares have been cleared,” the statement reads.
In particular, 65.43 hectares of agricultural land, 10.67 km of roads, 3.73 km of power lines, and 46.44 km of railway tracks were demined.
Demining specialists identified and destroyed 557 explosive ordnance items (481,590 since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion).
At the same time, the ministry noted that the mine threat remains serious. As of early April, 1,431 people have been affected by Russian mines and explosive remnants of war, including 147 children and 1,284 adults.
Units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the State Special Transport Service are involved in clearing liberated territories of explosive hazards under the Ministry of Defense.
In February, Defense Ministry units cleared 800 hectares of liberated territories.
As reported by Ukrinform, since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, units of the State Emergency Service have cleared nearly 200,000 hectares of land and neutralized 600,000 explosive devices.
