Ukrainians choose 'Siaivo' as name for national AI language model

Ukrainians have chosen "Siaivo" ("Radiance") as the name for the country's national large language model (LLM).

According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, more than 136,000 people took part in the vote.

"Over 136,000 Ukrainians joined the vote and selected the winner. 'Siaivo' is the first national large language model being developed by the Ministry of Digital Transformation together with Kyivstar," the statement said.

The ministry noted that ten names made it to the final round. The key selection criterion was uniqueness: submissions had to be original and free of plagiarism or intellectual property violations. "Siaivo" received the highest number of votes – 22,538.

The national LLM is expected to be used across public services, business, education, and defense. It will help speed up data processing, automate processes, and serve as a foundation for new digital products.

As previously reported, Ukraine is currently collecting data to train the national LLM, with beta testing scheduled for spring 2026. A group of experts is already working on evaluation benchmarks to assess and improve the model's performance, ensuring both efficiency and safety.
