Repatriation efforts bring 1,003 fallen Ukrainian soldiers back home
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the press service of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
“Today, repatriation measures took place. Ukraine received 1,003 bodies, which, according to the Russian side, belong to Ukrainian servicemen,” the statement said.
It is noted that investigators and law enforcement agencies, together with expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will conduct examinations and identification of the repatriated bodies.
The Coordination Headquarters expressed gratitude for the assistance in carrying out repatriation measures to the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as to the personnel of the Central Directorate of the Military Law Enforcement Service of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Joint Center for Military Law Enforcement Support, which handles the transport of the repatriated bodies to designated state specialized institutions and organizes the transfer of the deceased to law enforcement representatives under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and forensic medical examinations under the Ministry of Health.
As reported by Ukrinform, the first burial of unidentified soldiers who died in the full-scale war took place in Lviv region. Six defenders were buried at a new cemetery in Ivano-Frankivsk community.
