Hanukkah menorah lit on Kyiv's Independence Square
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
"I participated in the public ceremony of lighting the first candle on the Hanukkah menorah, traditionally installed on Independence Square near the Main Post Office. It was set up by the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine with the support of the city authorities. The Hanukkah menorah in Kyiv is the largest in Europe. This year it was created by a Ukrainian designer," Klitschko said.
Rabbis, the ambassador of Argentina, charges d'affaires of the embassies of Canada and Bulgaria, and representatives of the diplomatic missions of the United Kingdom and France attended the ceremony.
"The light of the Hanukkah candles symbolizes the spirit of freedom, the triumph of good over evil, and the resilience of the Jewish and Ukrainian peoples. I congratulate the Jewish community on Hanukkah! Thank you for being together here in Ukraine today. We are fighting for its freedom and independence, for democracy, and the free path of the Ukrainian state," Klitschko said.
