Poland celebrates Independence Day

The 107th anniversary of Poland’s restoration of independence is being celebrated with the participation of the country’s top officials, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

President Karol Nawrocki, after laying flowers at monuments to prominent Poles who restored Poland’s independence — including Józef Piłsudski, Ignacy Paderewski, Roman Dmowski, and Ignacy Daszyński — participated in a celebratory mass and awarded state honors. The program of festive events also includes a ceremonial changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is taking part in the ceremonies in Gdańsk. On the eve of the celebrations, Tusk wrote that Poland today is a democratic and law-abiding country, strong in its economy and army, rooted in Europe and Western civilization, and “solidary with Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.”

In Warsaw, several mass gatherings are taking place in honor of Independence Day. The largest, the Independence March, traditionally involves right-wing conservative forces and organizations. President Nawrocki and the leader of the largest opposition party, Law and Justice (PiS) Jarosław Kaczyński, have declared their participation.

As reported, drones are prohibited in Warsaw from morning until late evening on Poland’s Independence Day.
