More than one dangerous parcel: Smelyansky reveals details of explosion at Ukrposhta

According to Ukrinform, Ukrposhta Ukrainian National Postal Operator CEO, Igor Smelyansky, reported the news on Telegram.

“An explosion occurred at one of our sorting centers in Kyiv. The incident happened during procedures to check for prohibited items. Thanks to the measures taken, we were also able to detect and seize another parcel with prohibited and dangerous contents,” said the CEO of the company.

He added that the control system worked, but five employees were injured.

The investigation is ongoing.

Smelyansky appeals to citizens not to endanger Ukrposhta employees, as well as friends and relatives.

The media, citing sources, reports that part of a grenade launcher exploded. “According to preliminary data, someone tried to send part of a grenade launcher by mail,” Ukrainska Pravda reports.

BBC Ukraine sources in law enforcement agencies confirm the information about the grenade launcher. “The grenade launcher's body was not completely cleaned out,” the source said.

As reported by Ukrinform, police are investigating the circumstances of the explosion at a post office in the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv, which, according to preliminary data, injured five people.
