Defense of Kharkiv region: Court upholds detention of General Halushkin
The ruling was issued on Monday by a panel of judges led by Yaroslav Melnyk, Halushkin's lawyer, Dmytro Kruhovyi, told Ukrinform.
"The panel of judges rejected the defense team's appeals and left unchanged the investigative judge's decision, which ordered Yurii Halushkin to remain in custody without the possibility of bail," Kruhovyi said.
On January 20, 2025, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) arrested two generals and a colonel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including Halushkin. Investigators claim they failed to ensure the proper defense of the Kharkiv region during the Russian offensive in May 2024.
Initially, Kyiv's Pecherskyi District Court ordered Halushkin's arrest but allowed bail set at UAH 5 million, which was paid.
However, on January 22, the SBI announced new findings in the case regarding the border breach in the Kharkiv region, leading to the arrest of the former commander of the Kharkiv Operational and Tactical Group of Forces.
On January 24, Kyiv's Pecherskyi District Court revised the decision, ordering Halushkin to remain in custody without the possibility of bail for 60 days.
