The majority of French citizens support continued military assistance to Ukraine, 70% of those surveyed support its accession to NATO, and 66% – that to the EU.

That’s according to a recent poll run by Elabe Institute for BFMTV, published on March 4, Ukrinform reports.

"Sixty-four percent of French people want continued assistance to Ukraine, among them 20 percent, which is 4 points more against June 2024, support its strengthening," the poll results say.

In addition, three out of four respondents said they were shocked by the argument between the American and Ukrainian presidents in the Oval Office on Friday, February 28. Most respondents consider Donald Trump responsible for the escalation.

The French are in favor of Ukraine joining NATO and the EU, but remain divided on the time frame.

“Seventy percent are in favor of Ukraine joining NATO, including 40 percent after the war and 30 percent immediately. Sixty-six percent are in favor of Ukraine joining the European Union, including 35 percent after the war and 31 percent immediately,” the poll shows.

While most French people oppose the idea of putting French troops on the ground to participate in hostilities, 67 percent agree with sending troops to guarantee security after a peace agreement is reached.

At the same time, 76 percent of those polled expressed concern that the war could spread to other countries, especially those bordering Russia. And 64 percent of the surveyed citizens fear that the conflict could even affect France.
