Head of SES: 100 rescuers killed, 430 injured in Ukraine over three years of war

This was reported by SES Head Andrii Danyk in an interview with Ukrinform.

“Unfortunately, 100 our employees have lost their lives. This is a very large number and a deeply painful loss. Additionally, we have 430 injured rescuers,” he said.

Danyk noted that wounded personnel have undergone treatment, including abroad.

“Many of our injured employees are deminers. Unfortunately, mine and explosive-related injuries have very severe consequences, and recovery from such wounds is extremely difficult, lengthy, and costly,” he explained.

According to him, SES personnel are highly motivated, and if there is even the slightest opportunity to return to active service, they do.

“For those unable to continue serving in field units, we provide opportunities to work as instructors at our educational institutions, training centers, or in administrative roles that do not involve high-risk tasks,” the SES chief said.

Danyk emphasized the importance of preserving the experience of wounded rescuers and ensuring they pass their knowledge on to young officers and sergeants preparing for the job.

“We understand that this experience is an invaluable personnel resource,” he noted.

He also assured that SES continues to support the families of fallen rescuers. “We have an entire department dedicated to assisting them. It is a very complex process that requires systematic and serious work,” Danyk stated.

As previously reported, five rescuers were injured in Russian shelling on January 22 in Ukraine.
