Another humanitarian cargo from Pope Francis arrives in Kharkiv

“We cannot get used to the war, let alone become indifferent to the suffering of Ukrainians,” said Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, prefect of the Vatican's Dicastery for the Ministry of Mercy, in an interview with Vatican Radio.

He said that such humanitarian cargoes, among other things, include basic necessities that the Pope receives as a gift on the occasion of visits by heads of state. This time, the shipment included sleeping bags, which the pontiff receives from Slovakia, as well as food, hygiene products, and toys.

The Cardinal emphasized that humanitarian aid from the Vatican is always organized in cooperation with the Ukrainian Greek Catholic community in Rome, which has been involved in helping its compatriots since the beginning of the war. As a result, nearly 260 trucks were sent to Ukraine, including humanitarian aid from the Pope.

“It is very easy to forget or get used to war, which is why the Holy Father constantly reminds us not to forget people in need, not to become indifferent... That is why he prays at every opportunity for those countries that suffer from wars,” said Cardinal Krajewski.

The prefect of the Dicastery of the Ministry of Mercy added that on February 24, the anniversary of the beginning of the full-scale Russian aggression against Ukraine, the Vatican will pray primarily for peace.

As reported, Cardinal Krajewski visited Ukraine in December-January. He saw the consequences of Russian shelling in the Church of St. Nicholas in Kyiv, visited Kharkiv for Christmas Eve, where he had the opportunity to talk to internally displaced persons from the frontline areas.

As reported, in September 2022, Cardinal Konrad Krajewski came under fire in the war zone in southern Ukraine while transporting humanitarian aid.
