The issue of obligatory mobilization of Ukrainian women liable for military service is not on the agenda. Female Ukrainians may join the Army only consensually.

This was stated by Fedir Venislavskyi, a member of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, who spoke at a briefing in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.

“The issue of conscripting women liable for military service was resolved by parliament through a clear imperative norm of the law because ahead of passing amendments to legislation on military registration and military service, it was stipulated in the Cabinet resolution that women can be mobilized exclusively with their consent,” Venislavskyi emphasized.

According to the lawmaker, since the issue became subject of political manipulation, the parliament decided to clearly and unambiguously put an end to it at the legislative level.

Venislavsky emphasized that the law lays down the norm that women may register for military service, undergo basic training, and become mobilized exclusively with voluntarily for each such stage.

“Mandatory mobilization of women is off the table,” the politician emphasized.

The committee recalled that today, tens of thousands of Ukrainian women sign contracts with the Army and other elements of Ukraine’s defense and security forces, as well as perform combat missions.

“The choice to join the Armed Forces is a voluntary issue, but a significant number of women have exercised their right and are now serving,” Venislavskyi added.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, the Verkhovna Rada is working to ensure the possibility of introducing mandatory and additional vacations for Ukraine’s military.
