On the occasion of Vyshyvanka Day, which happened to be the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Deportation of Crimean Tatars, President Volodymyr Zelensky wore an embroidered shirt with ornaments about the unity of the Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar peoples.

President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote this on Telegram, publishing a selfie in an embroidered shirt, Ukrinform reports.

"This year there are two meanings united by one date, May 18. 79 years ago on this day, the Soviet authorities began to deport the Crimean Tatar. The nation which was wanted to be erased, deprived of its home, deprived the right to life. But the people survived. And will live freely! Today I am wearing a special embroidered shirt with ornaments that symbolize the unity of the Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar peoples. Symbols of our strength and our desire to live in our home," Zelensky said.

He wished that this year's Vyshyvanka Day in Ukraine would be a reminder of what our people have gone through and how strong our culture is.

"Eternal memory to all our people whose lives were taken by totalitarian regimes! We honor our peoples, their strength and culture!" the President emphasized.

As reported, Vyshyvanka Day is celebrated every year on the third Thursday of May.

May 18 is also the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Crimean Tatar Genocide in Ukraine.
