Ukraine will file an application as a candidate to the UNESCO Executive Board for 2025-2029 and prepare a dossier of Chernihiv's cultural landscape to have it put on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko and Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzhaparova said this at a joint briefing with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We will continue to work on other dossiers for both tangible and intangible heritage. We are also pleased to announce that we have decided to submit our candidacy to the UNESCO Executive Board for the next period, 2025-2029, and we hope that our partners will support us," Dzhaparova said.

Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko pointed out that he plans to visit Chernihiv to launch the drafting of a dossier on the city's cultural landscape, "to report which cultural heritage is under threat.”

Tkachenko also noted he believed in UNESCO's leading role in raising funds for the restoration of cultural heritage sites across Ukraine.

As reported, on April 3, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay arrived on a visit to Kyiv.

On January 25, the historic center of Odesa was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Tkachenko said the Ministry was looking into nominating the central parts of several other cities, including Chernihiv, for the UNESCO World Heritage List.
