U.S. to allocate $17M to Ukraine to support public health system

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will allocate an additional $17 million to finance the public health system recovery in Ukraine.

According to the Ministry of Health, this was announced during a working meeting between Ukraine’s Minister of Health Viktor Liashko and chief state sanitary doctor Ihor Kuzin with CDC representatives in Washington, Ukrinform reports.

"Of this $17 million, $5.3 million will be directed to prevention, detection and response to the growth of antimicrobial drugs’ resistance, $7.7 million to strengthen surveillance systems and laboratory capabilities, $2.6 million to strengthen emergency management in the field of public health and $1.2 million for improving data modernization systems," said Liashko.

According to him, part of the funds will be used to the further support and develop the training course on field epidemiology for Ukrainian specialists, which will positively influence the safety of public health in Ukraine.

Lyiashko thanked the partners for supporting the healthcare system and public health system of Ukraine.
