Kherson residents have gathered near the monument to Taras Shevchenko to hold a peaceful rally against the Russian aggression.

The relevant video was posted by one of Kherson residents on Facebook, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The video depicts people chanting: “Kherson is Ukraine!”. Participants told they had joined the rally to show that local residents in Kherson Region are against Russia and against establishing the so-called ‘Kherson People’s Republic’. There was no organizer in this rally; people came on their own.

Kherson residents, who joined the rally with Ukrainian flags and handmade posters, were chanting: “Glory to Ukraine! Glory to Heroes!”, “Together we are many – we will not be defeated”, “Glory to the Armed Forces of Ukraine!”, “Mykolaiv! We stand with you!” and other patriotic slogans.

Participants are posting photographs from this event on the social media.

In a commentary to Ukrinform, participants told Kherson residents had managed to finish the rally before the Russian military came with military vehicles to disperse them.

“We have managed to hold the rally. Now the Russian military vehicles came there,” one of local residents said.

Earlier, Kherson residents traditionally gathered on Freedom Square, near Kherson Regional State Administration. Now, this square and the regional administration’s building are controlled by armed Russian troops, who use force against unarmed civilians and abduct people.
