In the past day, Ukrainian border guards seized two counterfeit COVID-19 vaccination certificates during passport control in Kyiv airports.

That’s according to the State Border Guard Service’s press office, Ukrinform reports referring to the agency’s Kyiv unit Facebook page.

Over the past 24 hours, border guards with the Kyiv Separate Checkpoint reported 2 COVID-19 certificates with signs of forgery. All of them were discovered at the Boryspil International Airport.

In total, since the launch of the SafeBorder verification system, border guards have found 803 such counterfeit documents at Boryspil and Zhuliany (Kyiv) airports.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, since August, border guards have been verifying QR codes on COVID-19 certificates using an electronic device with SafeBorder software installed.

The software in question automatically validates the certificate and verifies whether it actually belongs to its holder as each COVID-certificate has a unique electronic identifier and QR code.

The SBGS reminds that the deliberate use of a forged document is punishable by a fine of up to fifty non-taxable minimum incomes, custody remand for up to six months, or restriction of liberty for up to two years.
