IBRD to grant Ukraine $150M to combat COVID-19

The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) will provide Ukraine with an additional $150 million for combatting the spread of COVID-19.

"On December 10, 2021, at a meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, a decision was approved to provide Ukraine with a loan to implement Additional Financing for the Ukraine Emergency COVID-19 Response and Vaccination Project to attract additional $150 million to implement measures to counter the spread of COVID-19 in the country. The loan agreement was signed on December 13, 2021," the press service of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine informs.

As noted, additional funding is planned to be allocated for the existing project signed on May 17, 2021 (Ukraine Emergency COVID-19 Response and Vaccination Project), the loan amount of which is $90 million.

The IBRD loan will be used to strengthen the public health system, support emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic through the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines and logistics services; purchase of cold chain facilities and logistics infrastructure; training for medical staff; improvement of medical waste management and disposal systems; purchase and installation of autoclaves and other devices for disinfection and waste disposal; vaccination campaigns, information systems and purchase of IT equipment for vaccination management, as well as other urgent measures to combat the spread of COVID-19 in Ukraine.

As reported, 3,563,165 COVID-19 cases, 3,205,879 recoveries, and 91,215 deaths have been recorded in Ukraine since the pandemic started. Over the past day, 4,073 new COVID-19 cases were registered in Ukraine (including 377 children and 37 health workers).
