Crimea will never be Russian territory – Zelensky

Crimea will never be Russian territory, because it is Ukrainian land, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

He said this in an interview with DOM TV channel, part of which was published on Telegram.

"People who occupied the territory will never love Crimea the way we love... This is not their land, they will not be here, their children will not grow up here, and they will not die for our land. It will never be Russian territory, just never," Zelensky said.

He added that one cannot tell the Tatars that they were not here and that the deportation was invented.

Zelensky also noted that the return of Crimea under the control of the Ukrainian authorities is a matter of time.

As reported, Ukraine will host the Crimean Platform summit on August 23. In addition to the main meeting, it will include four thematic panels on non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea, militarization of the Azov-Black Sea region, ways to reintegrate Crimea through human rights and sustainable development, and restoration of rights of Crimean Tatar people.

Some 29 countries have already confirmed their participation in the summit.

The Crimean Platform is a new consultative and coordination format initiated by Ukraine to step up the efficiency of international response to the occupation of Crimea, respond to growing security challenges, increase international pressure on Russia, prevent further human rights violations, protect victims of the occupation regime, and achieve the main goal: to de-occupy Crimea and return it to Ukraine.
