Following diplomatic appeal, Olympics website removes border between Ukraine, Crimea

The website of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics has removed the marking of the border between Ukraine and Crimea on its fan map upon the request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba shared the news on Twitter, Ukrinform reports.
"As soon as we learned about the incorrect map on the Olympic website yesterday, we immediately reached out to the IOC leadership. They apologized for the error. As of this morning, Tokyo time, the map has already been fixed,” Kuleba said.
An interactive fan map pops up on the Tokyo 2020 Olympics website. Earlier, it showed a border marking dividing mainland Ukraine and its Crimea Peninsula, now temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation.
As reported earlier, on Friday, July 23, Tokyo is set to host the opening ceremony for the XXXII Olympic Games, postponed from last year amid the worldwide pandemic.
