Ukrainian Canadian Congress calls to stop Nord Stream 2

The international community must work with the U.S. Congress to stop the construction of the Nord Stream 2 project, National President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) Alexandra Chyczij has said.

"The UCC calls on the international community to work with the US House of Representatives and Senate, and allies in the European Union and Ukraine to ensure that Nord Stream 2 is not completed or operationalized," Chyczij noted.

She stressed that the completion of this pipeline will negatively affect the security of Ukraine and the entire region.

“The Nord Stream 2 pipeline is an enormous threat to transatlantic security, and its completion would make a further Russian invasion of Ukraine far more likely,” Chyczij said.

According to numerous news sources, the Biden administration and Germany agreed on terms that would allow the pipeline to be completed. The implementation of any arrangement that would allow the Nord Stream 2 pipeline to come online would strengthen Russia’s energy leverage over Europe, and seriously undermine Ukraine’s security.

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Dmytro Razumkov called on the U.S. Congress to refrain from approving any agreements that would threaten Europe's energy security and pose a threat to the national interests of Ukraine and the United States.
