Verkhovna Rada renews EU–Ukraine agreement on cooperation in science and technology

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted Law No. 0107 "On Ratification of the Agreement (in the form of an Exchange of Notes) between Ukraine and the European Union on Renewal of the Agreement on Cooperation in Science and Technology between Ukraine and the European Community".

As an Ukrinform correspondent reports, the decision was supported by 333 MPs.

It is expected that the renewal of the agreement will create conditions for the implementation of joint research projects with EU member states, joint workshops and meetings, training of scientists and technicians, as well as other forms of scientific and technical cooperation that can be agreed on mutually. In addition, the agreement provides for tax benefits provided for by the agreement between Ukraine and the European Community on cooperation in science and technology and joint use of research equipment. The number of bilateral projects carried out by Ukrainian and European scientists, scientific events of the international level will also be increased.

The Agreement on Cooperation in Science and Technology between Ukraine and the European Community was signed in Copenhagen on July 4, 2002. It expired on November 8, 2019.

The agreement is the legal basis for the EU–Ukraine cooperation in the field of scientific and technological research which allows expanding and strengthening cooperation in areas of common interest.
