Vaccination could become a mandatory element for teachers, according to Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet.

He said this at a press conference as part of the All-Ukrainian Forum "Ukraine 30. Education and Science" in Kyiv on Tuesday, June 1.

"Vaccination could be a mandatory element for admission to [teaching] profession," he said.

Shkarlet added that there was no compulsory vaccination, including COVID-19 vaccination, in Ukraine, and a person may have either allergic reactions or relevant medical contraindications.

He noted that today 65% of the people in Ukraine are involved in the educational process, including educators, children, their parents, and family members.

Earlier reports said that Ukraine in April started the vaccination of employees involved in the external independent evaluation with CoronaVac vaccines from Sinovac Biotech.

The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, delivered to Ukraine as part of the COVAX scheme, will also be used to vaccinate educators.
