Two schools in Kyiv temporarily closed due to rise in COVID-19 cases

Two schools in Kyiv city have been temporarily closed due to a rise in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

"Due to a rise in coronavirus cases, we had to close for quarantine two schools in the capital,” Klitschko said at a press briefing on March 12, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to him, 460 classes in 182 schools have been transferred to distance learning. Some 576 pupils and 352 teachers are sick with coronavirus.

The mayor also said about a rise in coronavirus cases in kindergartens in Kyiv. In particular, 92 groups in 72 kindergartens have been temporarily closed.

As reported by Ukrinform, a total of 12,946 new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Ukraine in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 1,438,468.
