More than 19,100 people received first dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Ukraine

As of March 9, 19,118 people received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Ukraine, according to data published on the Vaccination against COVID-19 portal of the Health Ministry.

“As many as 1,171 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in Ukraine over the past day. Of whom, 1,171 people were vaccinated with the first dose, fully vaccinated (received 2 doses) - 0 people,” reads the report.

It is noted that 27 mobile immunization teams operate across the country to conduct vaccination.

On March 8, the highest number of vaccinations was carried out in Donetsk region - 294 injections. Since the start of vaccination campaign in Ukraine, the highest number of vaccinations was also recorded in Donetsk region – 2,474.

On February 23, 500,000 doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca (Covishield) vaccine, purchased at the expense of the state budget, were delivered to Ukraine.

On February 24, 2021, Ukraine launched a coronavirus vaccination campaign. Medical workers and military personnel were the first to get their shots of the Covishield vaccine, manufactured in India under the license of Oxford/AstraZeneca.

By March 31, the Health Ministry expects to receive another 1.5 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine. As part of the global COVAX initiative, the delivery of 117,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine is planned for early March.

According to Ukraine’s national vaccination plan, vaccination will be voluntary and will include five stages. Medical personnel working in hospitals designated for treatment of COVID-19 patients are among those offered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines, as well as workers of mobile teams that carry out coronavirus vaccination.
