A basket of flowers from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was put at the monument to outstanding Ukrainian writer and public figure Lesya Ukrainka in Kyiv on Thursday on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of her birth, the presidential press service has reported.

According to the report, flowers from the head of state were also left at the grave of Lesya Ukrainka at the Baikove Cemetery.

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Dmytro Razumkov, in turn, noted that the 150th anniversary of the writer's birth is a good occasion to re-read her works, which have forever changed Ukrainian literature.

"Today marks 150 years since the birth of Lesya Ukrainka. An outstanding Ukrainian writer, poetess, and cultural figure. This is a good reason to re-read her works, which have forever changed Ukrainian literature," the parliament speaker wrote on his Facebook page.

On January 29, 2021, Zelensky signed a decree "On the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Lesya Ukrainka" in order to commemorate the writer and promote her works.

February 25 marks 150 years since the birth of the Ukrainian writer.
