Ukrainian scientists cooperate with scientific institutions and organizations of 50 countries

Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine cooperate with scientific institutions and organizations of 50 world countries.

 “We have wide international cooperation, we implement about 120 agreements concluded by the NASU with academies, government agencies, research organizations, industrial companies in about 50 world countries. In particular, NASU participates in European programmes, in particular, NATO's Science for Peace and Security Programme, UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme, we work with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), our presence at CERN is very significant, the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA). We also work with the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre,” President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU) Anatoliy Zahorodniy announced at a briefing, Ukrinform reports.

In particular, according to the NASU data cited by Zahorodniy, more than 2,000 basic researches and about 2,000 applied researches are carried out in the Academy institutions every year. In 2019, 2,540 basic researches and 2,576 applied researches were carried out in the institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, of which 2/3 were financed from off-budget sources.

According to the NASU President, Ukrainian scientists annually develop about 140 new technologies (138 new technologies in 2018, 148 new technologies in 2019, the data for 2020 is being currently collected). Moreover, 499 new products – devices, systems, appliances, units, installations and their components, prototypes, chemicals, medicines, biologically active substances, software products – were created in 2019.

The scientists of NASU institutions participated in the elaboration of more than 44 draft laws, including laws, strategies, concepts, etc., 182 mathematical models, 86 standards, regulations, technical documentation, etc. used, in particular in industry, medicine, agriculture, etc.

Also, NASU annually receives about 500 Ukrainian and international patents for its research and development products.

This year, according to Zahorodniy, it is planned to continue cooperation with CERN, the IAEA, the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, in particular in the study of climate change, the impact of climate change on society, economy as well as and COVID-19 pandemic impact on society.
