Ukraine reports 5,676 new COVID-19 cases

As of January 8, Ukraine has reported 1,105,169 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 5,676 new cases recorded over the past 24 hours.

"Some 5,676 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have been recorded in Ukraine as of January 8, 2021. In particular, 166 children and 179 health workers contracted COVID-19," Health Minister Maksym Stepanov posted on Facebook.

He said that 83 deaths, 5,131 recoveries and 2,402 hospitalizations were recorded in Ukraine on January 7.

The minister noted that 20,192 coronavirus tests, including 16,152 PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 4,040 ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) tests, had been performed in Ukraine in the past 24 hours.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in Ukraine, 19,588 deaths and 778,345 recoveries have been recorded and 5,733,555 PCR tests have been performed.

The highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases over the past day was registered in Kyiv city (438), Mykolaiv region (418), Donetsk region (384), Dnipropetrovsk region (376) and Kyiv region (371).
