"Last year's average temperature in Kyiv rose to + 10.9°C, which is 3.2°C higher than the climatic norm, and thus 2020 became the hottest year on record since 1881," the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory reports.
According to meteorologists, 11 months of the year had a significant excess of average monthly temperatures relative to the climatic norm, except for May, which was colder than the climatic norm. January, February, and March had the highest deviations from the long-term averages of 6.4°С, 6.7°С, and 5.8°С, respectively.
As noted, the coldest day was December 7 when the temperature hit -9.5°C, while the hottest - September 1, when the temperature in the shade reached +34.7°C.
In total, in 2020, 36 temperature records were set in Kyiv, including 12 records in March, the Observatory informs.
