Ukraine reports 5,334 daily COVID-19 cases

A total of 5,334 new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Ukraine in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 1,083,585, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov has said.

"Some 5,334 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have been recorded in Ukraine as of January 5, 2021. In particular, those who have fallen ill include 164 children and 362 health workers," he wrote on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

He said that 202 deaths, 13,850 recoveries and 1,280 hospitalizations were recorded in Ukraine on January 4.

Stepanov noted that 39,286 coronavirus tests, including 24,154 PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 15,132 ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) tests, had been performed in Ukraine in the past 24 hours.

The highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases was registered in Kyiv (846), Odesa region (682), Zaporizhia region (418), Cherkasy region (376), and Poltava region (376).

A total of 4,158 COVID-19 cases were recorded in Ukraine on January 3.
