Yenin holds conversation with relatives of Canadians killed in UIA plane crash in Iran

Ukraine and families of Canadian citizens killed when Iran shot down Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 near Tehran have agreed to work together to bring those responsible to justice.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Yevhen Yenin wrote this on his Facebook page on January 4.

"I had a frank conversation with the Canadian relatives of those killed in the crash of flight PS752 in Iran on January 8, 2020. Our common goals are to restore justice and bring all those responsible to account for this terrible crime!" Yenin said.

He promised to do everything to achieve justice for all those who suffered in this tragic incident.

"Using all international platforms and media outlets, we will remind Iran of its obligation – to ensure an objective and impartial technical investigation into the causes of the plane crash; to institute criminal proceedings against the entire chain of officials and military personnel, regardless of their positions; to provide guarantees that such incidents will not occur in the future, and ensure a decent level monetary compensation to the relatives of the victims, regardless of their nationality," the report reads.

Ukraine International Airlines plane (Flight PS752) heading from Tehran to Kyiv crashed shortly after taking off from the Imam Khomeini International Airport at about 06:00 Tehran time (04:30 Kyiv time) on Wednesday, January 8. There were 176 people on board – nine crew members (all Ukrainians) and 167 passengers (citizens of Ukraine, Iran, Canada, Sweden, Afghanistan, Germany, and the UK).

On January 11, Iran admitted that its military had accidentally shot down the Ukrainian passenger jet. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) accepted full responsibility for the downing of the Ukrainian airliner.

On December 29, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded the flight PS752 crewmembers the titles of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Golden Star.
