In the Kyiv office of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, a meeting has been held with the participation of Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) Oleksiy Danilov.

During the meeting, the parties discussed ways to de-occupy the Crimean peninsula, Chairman of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov wrote on his Facebook page on December 30, Ukrinform reports.

"During a thorough and frank conversation, the participants of the meeting discussed issues of joint cooperation in the development and discussion of the state strategy for de-occupation and reintegration of the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, the implementation of the Crimean Platform initiative, as well as the imposition of sanctions against individuals and enterprises whose illegal activities contribute to the Russian occupation power in Crimea and the intensification of brutal persecution and repression of Ukrainian citizens living on the peninsula," the report reads.

The Crimean Platform is a new consultative and coordination format initiated by Ukraine to improve the international response to the occupation of Crimea and growing security challenges, increase international pressure on Russia, prevent further human rights violations and protect victims of the occupation regime, and achieve the main goal of de-occupation of Crimea and its return to Ukraine.

The Platform is expected to operate at several levels: heads of state and government, foreign ministers, inter-parliamentary cooperation, and expert network.

The activities of the Crimean Platform will be officially launched at the inaugural summit, which is scheduled for 2021 in Kyiv.
