Some 81% of Ukrainians plan to celebrate New Year's Day at home, according to Petro Burkovskyi, an analyst of the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation.

He said this while presenting the results of a nationwide representative poll at Ukrinform on Monday, December 28.

"This year, four out of five Ukrainians, 81 percent of respondents said they planned to celebrate New Year at home, with their family, and 9% of respondents hope to spend New Year's Eve visiting their friends or relatives," Burkovskyi said.

He noted that compared to 2018 and 2019, the number of respondents who will spend the new year with their family has increased by almost 14%, and the share of those who will visit their friends or relatives has halved.

The survey also showed that one in five young people (or 23% of respondents aged 18-29) planned to celebrate the New Year in their company. Among respondents aged over 60 years, 7% will spend New Year's Eve in front of the TV and 6% will not celebrate the holiday at all.

A nationwide poll was conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation and Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) from December 5 to December 13, 2020 in all regions of Ukraine, except for Crimea and the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

A total of 2,004 interviews were conducted with respondents living in 131 settlements in Ukraine. The poll's margin of error (with a probability of 0.95 and a design effect of 1.5) does not exceed 3.3%.
