In December 2020, St. Andrew’s Church in Kyiv will reopen for visitors after almost five years of restoration works.

“All the paintings, icons and iconostasis have been completely restored, the stucco has been cleaned and the floor has been polished. Engineering networks have been replaced; new lighting, heating, air supply systems and windows have been installed. By the way, German technologists helped to find the authentic color of the 18th century walls due to computer analysis. Before the final color was approved, 36 test colorings were made,” said Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko after visiting the church and getting acquainted with the progress of repair and restoration works, the Ministry’s press service reports.

As the minister noted, not only the interior but also the essence of the sanctuary were restored - the purpose of the restoration was to reveal the original decisions and visions of architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli, whose 320th anniversary of birth is marked this year.

St. Andrew's Church is a major Baroque church located in Kyiv. The church was constructed between 1747 and 1754, to a design by the Italian architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli. The church is part of the National Sanctuary "Sophia of Kyiv" as a landmark of cultural heritage.
