Kyiv's Pechersky District Court has given permission for the compulsory interrogation of former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko at the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) on June 10, the SBI's press service has reported.

"On June 4, 2020, Kyiv's Pechersky District Court issued a ruling stating that Poroshenko must be brought for interrogation as a witness in criminal proceeding No. 42020000000000307, which investigates the circumstances of a collection of cultural values, consisting of 43 paintings by world-famous artists, being moved across the customs border of Ukraine in circumvention of customs control," the report reads.

The interrogation is to take place at 11:00 on June 10, 2020 in the SBI's premises.

The SBI earlier opened proceedings over the illegal movement of 43 paintings across the border after a respective report was published on the Gordon news site in February this year.

On May 26, Poroshenko did not appear for questioning at the SBI as a witness in the case of the illegal movement of cultural property across the border. Instead, he presented an exhibition of paintings from his private collection at the Ivan Honchar Museum.

SBI representatives then came to the museum. According to museum representatives, security officers broke down the door.

The SBI said they had arrived at the museum to hand Poroshenko a notice of summons for questioning and to carry out investigative actions. At the same time, the SBI said that the museum administration and other persons obstructed the investigation so a special unit was involved.

Earlier, the SBI published on its Telegram channel a second summons to Poroshenko for questioning on May 29 as part of the investigation of two criminal cases. They concern the movement of a collection of 43 paintings by world-famous artists across the customs border of Ukraine in circumvention of customs control, as well as the possible illegal use of special technical means of obtaining information, which may cause significant damage to state interests.
