Kyiv Zoo will start receiving visitors from Saturday, May 23, in compliance with anti-epidemic rules, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has said.

He said this at a briefing on Friday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"The zoo will operate in compliance with sanitary norms and safety measures, as a city park. Entrance to the territory without a face mask is prohibited. Visitors will have their body temperature measured at the entrance. Hand sanitizers have been put up. The number of people staying at the zoo will be limited," Klitschko said.

According to him, the first stage of the zoo's reconstruction has been completed, and now a large part of the territory of the institution has a completely different look. In particular, there is a new entrance with a beautiful area and new premises, public toilets, a medical center. There is also a modern universal enclosure for animals and birds.

The mayor added that the construction of a new primate enclosure is underway at the expense of investors, and an oceanarium and food courts will be installed in the new building near the entrance.

In addition, a large parking lot for visitors, designed for 500 cars, is to open in July.

Ukraine introduced lockdown and a number of restrictive measures from March 12 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Some restrictions have been eased since May 11.

On May 20, the government decided to introduce a so-called adaptive lockdown until June 22. The second stage of the relaxation of lockdown measures began on May 22.
