Ukraine not yet ready to lift coronavirus lockdown - Nemchinov

Ukrinform
Ukraine is not yet ready to lift the coronavirus lockdown as the number of infected people grows after holidays, Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers Oleh Nemchinov has said.

"In my opinion, and I'm not an expert, the numbers that we have now, over the last few days, if we count the incubation period, these are the consequences of Palm Sunday," Nemchinov said.

According to him, after the holiday weekend, the incidence curve went up, and the number of deaths increased.

"These are not the consequences of Easter. These are mainly the consequences of Palm Sunday and pre-Easter services," the official said.

At the same time, he stressed that the church should not be seen as the only place where coronavirus infection is spreading and added that even a breach of the use of personal protective equipment could lead to such an outbreak.

Nemchinov also said that the authorities had to ban visits to parks because people did not observe lockdown rules, not realizing that there was danger nearby.

As was reported earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers extended the coronavirus lockdown in Ukraine until May 11, but restrictions are also possible in the next two years.

Ukraine has reported 7,647 coronavirus cases as of April 24. Some 477 new cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours.
