The Indian government has decided to provide Ukraine with a free batch of 30,000 hydroxychloroquine tablets. According to experts, the drug has a high potential in the fight against coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has reported.

"I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Indian government for their assistance. Despite a ban on exports of hydroxychloroquine abroad, our Indian friends have made this important decision for Ukraine," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said.

When the medicines arrive in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Health Ministry will distribute them to medical institutions.

Earlier reports said that the Ukrainian Health Ministry had included hydroxychloroquine in health protocols for coronavirus patients. At the same time, the ministry said the drug is not intended for self-treatment and can only be used by doctors. The effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine preparations in the treatment of patients with COVID-19 is now being thoroughly studied in many countries, including the United States and the EU.
