Additional measures to protect Ukrainians during the Easter holidays have been discussed at a daily conference call chaired by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to combat the spread of coronavirus, the press service of the head of state has reported.

According to the report, the issues of strengthening control over the wearing of masks, limiting the concentration of people and the regime of holding church services have been discussed.

"We have to do all to protect Ukrainians from the coronavirus epidemic. Easter is always an important time for people, a period of family unity. I am sure Ukrainians understand that at this important time we must also protect our loved ones," Zelensky said.

The president was informed at the meeting that in order to respond to the difficult situation faced by doctors in the Ternopil region and their appeal to the head of state and the government, Chief Sanitary Doctor Viktor Liashko has already left for the region. On the spot, he will look at the provision of health workers with protective equipment, inform them about the latest measures taken by the government to assist patients, and address any current issues of concern to physicians and locals.

Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said that Ukrainian companies were being licensed to manufacture drugs that will help start overcoming coronavirus disease COVID-19 in the initial stages and avoid complications. The Health Ministry has already developed a protocol for the treatment of coronavirus patients.

At night, 100,000 tests arrived in Ukraine and will be delivered to the regions by evening, according to Kyrylo Tymoshenko, the secretary of the coordination council for combating the spread of coronavirus disease COVID-19. He also added that a contract for the purchase of reagents, which will be enough to carry out one million coronavirus tests, would be signed on April 3. "At the beginning of next week, these reagents will be sent to regional laboratories," Tymoshenko said.

The first batch of reusable protective suits for doctors will be shipped to the regions on April 3. By the end of next week, healthcare institutions will receive 12,000 items of such protective clothing. The necessary special means and equipment are purchased on a regular basis, Tymoshenko said.

Zelensky said that the delivery of these items to medical institutions should be checked.

"To avoid the fact that we are looking for money, partners, negotiating with production abroad, organizing planes, transportation, and then receiving beautiful statistics and hundreds of doctors' complaints that they have nothing. Doctors are in the midst of infection, they are our warriors, our protection, our hope. We are doing everything for them to be protected and be able to protect us," Zelensky said.

Earlier, residents of the Monastyryska district in Ukraine's Ternopil region in a video address to the president reported a critical situation with the spread of the coronavirus in the region and the poor provision of a local hospital and health workers with medicines and protective clothing.

Liashko has left for the Ternopil region to talk to medical professionals.
