Chief sanitary doctor says coronavirus will peak in Ukraine in near future

Deputy Health Minister, Chief Sanitary Doctor Viktor Liashko said this at a briefing on Friday, April 3, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"We all understand that the efforts of government agencies will not be sufficient if we are not self-organized and if we do not follow all of the government's recommendations for observing anti-epidemic measures. We will continue to offer a tougher quarantine. We will propose limiting the mobility of people so as to come through the peak growth of coronavirus patients in a planned manner and without a serious load. We are studying in detail the situation in the EU countries and predict that we will see the peak growth of coronavirus disease in Ukraine in the near future," Liashko said.

According to him, the introduction of additional measures on isolation and restricted mobility will significantly reduce the number of critical and lethal cases caused by coronavirus disease.

A total of 942 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded in Ukraine as of 10:00 on April 3. Twenty-three patients died of the disease, whereas 19 recovered. Some 138 new cases have been recorded in Ukraine over the past 24 hours.
