‘Authorities’ in Crimea to close Kerch Bridge due to coronavirus

The so-called “authorities” in the occupied Crimea endorsed a decision to establish a checkpoint on the Kerch Bridge at 00:00 on April 2 in order to counter the spread of coronavirus infection.

"Russian-controlled head of Crimea Sergei Aksyonov announced that he had decided to establish a checkpoint on the Kerch Bridge. He announced this at a meeting of the operational headquarters to counteract the spread of coronavirus infection on April 1," the Crimea.Realities portal reports.

As noted, at 00:00 on April 2, the quarantine measures providing for "one hundred percent inspection of all vehicles" will be introduced along with the installation of a checkpoint.

The occupation authorities intend to publish a list of requirements for citizens visiting the peninsula from the territory of the Russian Federation by 17:00 today.

Earlier, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov said that the Kerch Bridge must be urgently closed for people and vehicle movement in order to avoid the spread of coronavirus in Crimea.

As of morning March 31, 16 coronavirus cases were confirmed in Crimea which is currently occupied by Russia. Five more cases were registered in Sevastopol.
