Foreign Ministry: Already 1,791 Ukrainians ask for help in returning home
"As of 09:00, we officially registered 1,791 people at the embassies and consulates of Ukraine who asked to help them leave the countries of their stay," Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said at a briefing on March 16, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
Kuleba said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and the State Border Guard Service formed a ‘clear picture’ of the places of stay of Ukrainian citizens and analyzed how to help them return to Ukraine.
"All possibilities and models will be used to help citizens in this difficult situation," the minister assured.
According to him, the possible plans of evacuation of Ukrainians by planes are being developed, and the negotiations with partners from other countries on the possibility of transit are underway.
As reported, on March 14, in response to the National Security and Defense Council's decisions to counteract the spread of coronavirus in Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers at its special meeting approved an order to temporarily restrict the crossing of the state border of Ukraine aimed at preventing the spread of Covid-19 in Ukraine.
The order provides for temporary ban from 00:00 on March 16 till April 3, 2020 on state border crossing for entry into Ukraine for foreigners and stateless persons and temporary closure of border crossing points for international air passenger services from 00:00 on March 17 till April 3, 2020(with the exception of a number of categories of citizens).
Since March 12, three-week quarantine in educational establishments and a number of other measures to combat the spread of coronavirus was introduced in Ukraine.
As of March 16, five cases of Covid-19 coronavirus were confirmed in Ukraine.
