At least 90 people in Crimea suffering political, religious persecution

At least 90 people suffer political and religious persecution in Crimea.

"According to human rights activists, 86 searches, 157 detentions, 194 interrogations, so-called conversations, 335 arrests, 33 convictions against political prisoners in Crimea, 252 cases of prolonged detention were recorded on the peninsula in 2019. In addition, 578 cases of violation of rights to a fair trial, 90 cases of violation of rights to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, 69 cases of transfer of political prisoners were recorded," Oksana Koliada, the Minister for Veterans, Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine, said at the Age of Crimea forum dedicated to the Day of Crimea's Resistance to Russian Occupation, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to the minister, at least 90 people suffer political and religious persecution on the peninsula and this number is constantly increasing.

"Nariman Memedeminov, Remzi Bekirov, Osman Arifmemetov, Rustem Shekhaliyev, Ruslan Suleymanov, as well as human rights activists Emir-Useyin Kuku and Server Mustafayev, are among them" she said.
