Verkhovna Rada Chairman Dmytro Razumkov has visited the Ukrainian Secondary School in Riga as part of his visit to Latvia, the Ukrainian parliament's press service has reported.

"I have absolutely no feeling that I am on a business trip outside Ukraine because a very good, pure Ukrainian language is heard everywhere. I visited many educational institutions in our country and abroad, but this is the first time that I visit a Ukrainian school that is successfully developing abroad. This is a great achievement, and I understand that the road to creating such a school was definitely not easy," Razumkov said.

The speaker also thanked the institution's management and teaching staff for their effective work over many years.

He also noted the school's important role in the upbringing of children.

"It depends on today's schoolchildren what Ukraine and Europe will be like in the future. Therefore, it is very important for children to be able to live and learn at the crossroads of several cultures, to learn their parents' language on a par with Latvian. It broadens the outlook and at the same time fosters love and respect for the native state," Razumkov said.

Razumkov is on an official visit to Latvia and Estonia on February 24-26.
