Twenty-one Ukrainians got refugee status in Poland last year

“Last year, approximately as in 2018, 4,100 people claimed refugee status in Poland, including 2,700 people for the first time. In total, 272 persons met the requirements for granting a status of international protection,” Polish Office for Foreigners spokesman Jakub Dudziak announced.

Most often, the refugee status in Poland was claimed by citizens of Russia - over 2,600 people, Ukraine - 430, Turkey - 120, Tajikistan - 110, and Georgia - 90. Of them, almost 34% were children younger than 10.

In total, 272 persons met the requirements for granting international protection status (refugee status or additional protection status): 81 citizens of the Russian Federation, 49 citizens of Turkey, 29 citizens of Tajikistan, 21 citizens of Ukraine, and 19 citizens of Iran. In addition, another 213 persons received status of national protection for humanitarian reasons.
