Verkhovna Rada approves law on Ukraine’s joining Eurimages

A total of 326 MPs voted for the document at a parliament´s meeting on December 19, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

The document stipulates the approval of Ukraine´s decision to join the European support Fund for the co-production and distribution of creative cinematographic and audiovisual works (Eurimages). The membership will come into force for Ukraine from the date of receipt by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe of the official notification on accession.

According to an explanatory note to the bill, the Eurimages Fund was established on October 26, 1988 to promote the co-production and distribution of cinematographic and audiovisual works. The annual budget of the Fund is over EUR 25 million and is distributed in the form of preferential credits for the support of co-production projects, as well as for the distribution and promotion of film projects.

A separate line of activity of the Fund is the support for cinemas, which is being implemented in cooperation with Europa Cinema. The Fund numbers 39 member countries.

The amount of Ukraine’s possible contribution to the Fund for the full year 2019, which is indicated in the letter of the Permanent Representation of Ukraine to the Council of Europe as of October 4, 2019, amounts to EUR 128,300.

The annual contribution is to be paid from state budget under the budget program "State support for cinematography".
