Petition which urges the Parliament and the Government of New Zealand to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as the genocide of Ukrainian people has already gained 5,876 signatures.

Petition progress can be tracked on the website of the New Zealand’s Parliament, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“That the House of Representatives urge the Government to recognise the Ukrainian Famine/Genocide of 1932-33 (the Holodomor) and condemn any attempt to deny or distort this historical truth as being anything less than genocide,” reads the petition request.

The petition is open for signing until by November 24, 2019 NZ time (166 days left) by any person in the world, regardless of age and nationality.

Further, according to the procedure, one of MPs should submit the petition to the parliament, and the relevant committee will prepare a report on response.
